New Defra rules from 01/07/12 state that cattle exhibited at any show that "houses" them in either buildings or a marquee and come from a herd in a 1 or 2 year TB testing interval, must now have a clear pre-movement test in the 60 days prior to a show. Cattle from herds in a 3 or 4 year TB testing interval are not effected by these rules.   

THE DECISION HAS BEEN TAKEN TO REMOVE THE SIDES FROM THE CATTLE MARQUEE ANDTHE SHOW IS THEREFORE EXEMPT FROM THIS RULE

CATTLE ENTRIES ARE FREE but a deposit of £5 per animal is charged for space in the cattle tent refunded for all animals exhibited. A limited amount of straw will be available in the cattle tent.

1. Inspection – 50 points.

2. Production – 50 points for the standard as set out below with the addition or deduction of one point for every 10kgs or part thereof over or under this standard.

3. Lactation – 2 points per lactation.

Production standards, total weight of fat and protein:

In awarding production points the following will be added to all yields:

JUDGING OF FOUR DAIRY CATTLE BY DERBYSHIRE YOUNG FARMER UNDER 26 YEARS OLD.

Competitors will place animals and explain reasons for their placings. Fifteen minutes will be allowed for viewing and handling. Each competitor will be allowed three minutes to state reasons, after which two marks will be deducted for each fifteen seconds or part thereof.  Competitors must not communicate directly or indirectly with anybody other than the Judge or Steward during the competition.

 CATTLE NOTICES

 

1.     Any cattle showing evidence of Warble infestation must have been treated and have a Declaration Form C confirming this.

2.     Animals which calve or show evidence of calving or have any signs of abnormal discharge will be isolated and returned to their herd as soon as possible. If this happens before judging they will not be allowed to compete.

3.     Where an animal calves prematurely or aborts the Divisional Veterinary Officer must be informed immediately. The animal and any others from the same premises must be returned home after a full range of samples have been taken including if possible a placental smear. The suspect animal must be isolated during transit.

4.     The permission of the Divisional Veterinary Officer must be obtained before any animal in a Scheme Herd is subjected to a blood test for Brucellosis.

5.     Smoking is prohibited in the Cattle Tents.

THE SHIRE HORSE SOCIETY

 

Offer of silver plated spoons and rosettes at affiliated shows for mares, fillies and stallions.

 

The Shire Hose Society is pleased to award a spoon and rosette for the best filly or mare at Ashover Show. Conditions of the award are:

1. The winner must be a member of the Shire Horse Society.

2. Entries cannot be accepted from any person who has been suspended or removed from membership or excluded from exhibiting or taking part in shows.

3. No animal to be eligible to take more than one silver spoon in any one year. The Royal and Shire Horse Society Shows being excepted.

4. The winning animal must be registered or eligible for registration in the stud book or grade B register.

5. The judge must be on the Society’s Official Panel and has the right to withhold the award of the silver spoon and rosette if an exhibit does not show sufficient merit.

6. The Society reserves the right in offering spoons to award them only to persons approved by them.
